2018 Albion II Foray - January (by )

There is no limit to the foray size itself.  FFSC members are welcome to stay off site and join us for both the Saturday foray and the Saturday night potluck.  You must be a FFSC member for you and your family to attend.

The Albion Retreat and Learning Center is located just one mile from the seashore, eight miles south of Mendocino, and 28 miles from the Jackson Demonstration Forest, and 60 miles from Salt Point in the valley of an old lumber camp on the Albion River, it has welcomed students and visitors with its rustic charm since 1947. The Albion Retreat and Learning Center is owned and operated by Pacific Union College.  The Albion foray focuses on a wide range of fungi, with edibles including boletes, chanterelles, candy caps, matsutake and hedgehogs.   

The Albion Retreat and Learning Center features heated private cabins with private baths and a lovely dining hall with a commercial kitchen. The center serves as our foray base and we utilize the kitchen for meals and our famous Saturday night potluck. 2017 Nama Northwoods Foray (Cable, Wisconsin) (by Katherine Elvin/Dan Tischler)

This years NAMA foray was held in Cable, Wisconsin in the Northwoods.   3 of us attended from FFSC (Katherine Elvin, Dan Tischler and David Rust).   The majority of the folks were from the Great Lakes region of WI, MI, and MN.

The woods were amazing and the "curse of No mushrooms" did not rear its ugly head.   We filled tables and tables of specimens for the id tables to keep the mycologists and their students busy...

2017 Fall Members Mushroom ID Classes (by )

Phil Carpenter will be leading a series of Fall Mushroom Identification classes. Starting October a series of 4 classes.  Classes will be held in Santa Cruz from 7-9 pm.   Participants must be active current club members and be able to attend all 4 sessions but since the class is free, the membership dues are the only fee for nonmembers.  If your membership has lapsed, it is important to renew it! There is no charge for the class for members and it is not open to non-members.  Come with fresh mushrooms from field or lawn, forest or mountains
