Allan Rockerfeller will be leading a mushroom tour in Queretaro, Mexico Aug 6 - 9, 2015. Queretaro is a really nice place with diverse mushroom habitats, and this tour is unique in that I am not getting paid - all profits go towards saving the forests in the Sierra Gorda Ecological Reserve.
This is not an FFSC event...
This month Justin Pierce will do a presentation on mushroom propagation, reproduction and home cultivation. Yes, there was some confusion (my bad) about which date he would present when Sara Dosa couldn't come last month, but Justin has confirmed he will be speaking at our May meeting. This should be a topic of interest. As the local mushroom season winds down and edibles become scarce, wouldn't it be nice to have some delectables growing right at home? Come learn all about it.
This meeting will also elect our new officers. This is where the Fungus Federation depends on its many knowledgeable and generous members to make things happen. Like most things, clubs are what you put into them. We do have nominations for officers, and these folks have agreed to run, but that doesn't mean it is too late to get involved. So if you have been enjoying the membership, think about a way to get involved in keeping it rolling!
Here is a list of the Board Members up for election. Please note that the Prime Minister position requires having served previously as a board member. The other positions can be held by any FFSC member.

We are happy to welcome filmmaker Sara Dosa to our April General Meeting. Sara examines the matsutake mushroom harvest in Chemult, Oregon, and the diverse community of pickers that contributes to the harvest.

This is the chance to brush up on your navigation skills before chasing down those spring coccora, morels or king boletes! We will be using what was learned in the Basic Survival Skills Workshop. It can also be a way to brush up on compass skill that haven't been used in a while.

Many wild mushrooms and lichens contain permanent, intensely colored dyes. In this workshop, you will explore a multitude of dye mushrooms found right here on the Redwood Coast.
Wild foraged fungi and ethically harvested lichens will define our palette. Using 10 species of urban and woodland fungi, along with eco-friendly mordants, we will create a full spectrum of incredibly rich colors - about 20 in all! Learn about foraging, ethical practices, basic identification concepts, and get hands on experience extracting mushroom and lichen dyes for wool and silk.
Please join us for our General Meeting at the Harvey West Scout House. Doors open at 7, with refreshments and informal mushroom ID from 7:00 - 7:30. A discussion of upcoming events will precede our speakers, Christian Schwarz and Penelope Gillette. Topic: The FFSC Sequencing Project and the Santa Cruz Mycoflora Project.
