How Many Mushrooms in One Day? (by )
" I have always wondered how many mushroom species it would be possible to see in one day in Santa Cruz County. Since this fall has been so exceptionally fruitful for mushrooms, I decided to give it a go… How else to find out?"
December 20th Foray with Cass Fuentes at the UCSC campus (by )
We had a great turn-out for the FFSC Foray last Saturday, December 20th! The group ended up leaving Marshall Fields and headed toward the UCSC campus to hunt, where we were greeted with (to name just a few) Amanita mucarias, Candy Caps, Blewits, Laccaria bicolor and amethysteo-occidentalis, Death Caps, Honey Mushrooms, and Lactarius rubrilacteus by the bucket-loads. It was a great time with great people, and great fungi!

Pickled Brussels Sprouts (by )
David Brandl's pickled Brussels Sprouts were relished at the Pipi Foray in May 2012 and the recent Albion foray in December 2014. Now you can make your own! As this recipe isn't water bath processed, it is best to store your pickled sprouts in the fridge or a very cool place...

Wondering about all those mushrooms sprouting up in your neighborhood, or maybe the ones decorating the woods?
Henry Young is giving a mushroom talk at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History on Tuesday night. This little museum is a gem with or without Phil and Henry, but with them speaking, it is well worth a visit.
Although this is not an FFSC event, it features two of our club's most active members.

Henry Cowell Habitat Walk (by )
A great group of people attended the Henry Cowell Habitat Walk this last Saturday. These hearty mushroom enthusiasts were greeted with early rain, muddy conditions… and TONS of mushrooms popping up all over! Some of the highlights were beautiful clumps of Oysters, fresh Lion's Mane, Dyer’s Polypore, carpets of Mycenas, an impressive troop of Jack O’Lanterns, and ominously glowing Death Caps. Below is a partial list of species found; there were various Agaricus, possible Agrocybes, and LBM’s that weren't included (among others).
