FORAY CANCELLED
Join FFSC for our annual forays to the Albion Field Station, located six miles south of Mendocino. The Mendocino Coast is a bountiful haven for fungal species in any season. The Albion I foray focuses on a wide range of fungi including boletes, chanterelles, candy caps, matsutake and hedgehogs. The January Albion II foray adds the delicious black trumpets to the foray mix.
The Albion Field Station is recently remodeled and now features heated private rooms with private baths and a lovely meeting hall with commercial kitchen. The field station serves as our foray base and we utilize the kitchen for meals and our famous Saturday night potluck. The cabins are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis so it is advisable to reserve a space early. Bring bedding, towels, toiletries and food for your meals and a dish to share at the Saturday potluck. Also bring raingear, footwear and layered clothing for all possible weather experiences, and, of course, your basket and collecting gear. If you would like to carpool, send an email to that effect to ffsc@googlegroups.com for dispersal to the membership. The foray cost is an exceptional bargain for the North Coast. A $55 per person deposit is required for the weekend. This fee covers lodging, facility fee and use of the meeting hall and kitchen. A few cabins with kitchenettes are also available at a higher fee. Final cost is based on how many people attend but is not likely to exceed $60 for the weekend. Unless cancellation is made well in advance, the deposit is non-refundable. Note: Attendees participate in group clean-up throughout the weekend (opening and closing, kitchen cleanup, etc.).
