? WHEN: 02/15/2017, 7-9 pm
? WHERE: Harvey West Scout House, Harvey West Scout House

Please join us for our General Meeting at the Harvey West Scout House.  Doors open at 7, with refreshments and informal mushroom ID from 7:00 - 7:30. A discussion of upcoming events will precede our speaker, Dr. Sharifa Crandall, a fungal and plan ecologist.

The title will be The Hidden World of Spores. The talk will discuss recent scientific projects from the Santa Cruz Mountains that involve measuring the ecology, traits, and identity of fungal spores that are caught from the air and from rainwater. We'll also see beautiful images of spores and their sporocarps that will be used for the Santa Cruz Mycoflora project.

Biosketch: Dr. Sharifa Crandall is a fungal and plant ecologist. A proud banana slug, she obtained her PhD from UC Santa Cruz in Environmental Studies, her Masters in Forest Science from Yale University, and her Bachelors in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley. She is a California endemic and grew up hiking and exploring the forests of the northern and central coast. Sharifa is obsessed with all things spore and enjoys taking photos of fungi under a microscope. In her spare time, she forages for edible mushrooms with her daughter and experiments with new recipes for candy caps.
