Hello Fungus Federation Friends,
It is time to sign up for the 2025 Alaska trip to Sterling Alaska on the banks of the Kenai River. You must be an active member . This year the 1 week stay at BILL WHITE'S ALASKA SPORTS LODGE will be arrival on Sat. 8/16 to Sat. 8/23. This trip offers the potential for great mushroom hunting and also great fishing in the Kenai River on the Kenai Peninsula Alaska. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to Bill White's Alaska Sports Lodge in Sterling Alaska. Air flights are available to Anchorage AK (Alaska) and car rentals are also available there. The distance from Anchorage AK to Sterling AK is 137 miles, about 2.5 hrs by car.
The Kenai Peninsula was dry last year and the Kenai River was down 3 feet from it's usual height. The fishing was still great. August and September are the two rainiest months on the peninsula so these dates are within the rain window. Also, these dates are within the early silver salmon and sockeye salmon runs up the Kenai River.
The accommodations at the sports lodge are basic yet comfortable. There are three cabins with bathroom, kitchen, 2 bed loft and down stairs a 2 bed room, not to forget an outside deck. There is shopping available in the much larger City of Soldotna, 11.5 miles to the South. A bonus is the Lodge's processing shed with some dehydrators for fungi, vacuum packing equipment and several freezers for preserving your fish.
The cost of lodging at Bill White's Alaska Sport Lodge is beyond reasonable. It is quite inexpensive. Charges for 1 person for 1 week follows:
Per person per night $35.00 X 7 nights = ---------------$245.00
Cleaning charge based on 4 persons in each cabin ---$ 25.00 per person.
Subtotal ---$270.00
Sales tax and handling fee 6%---------------------------$ 16.20
TOTAL---$286.20
