? WHEN: 07-09, December 2018
? WHERE: Albion Field Station, Albion Field Station, 34100 Albion Street Albion, CA 95410

There is no limit to the foray size itself.  FFSC members are welcome to stay off site and join us for both the Saturday foray and the Saturday night potluck. You must be a FFSC member for you and your family to attend.  This year, our guest speaker will be Noah Seigel for Saturday night.

The Albion Retreat and Learning Center is located just one mile from the seashore, eight miles south of Mendocino, and 28 miles from the Jackson Demonstration Forest, and 60 miles from Salt Point in the valley of an old lumber camp on the Albion River, it has welcomed students and visitors with its rustic charm since 1947. The Albion Retreat and Learning Center is owned and operated by Pacific Union College and offers an ideal base from which to foray in the nearby Jackson Demonstration Forest.  The Mendocino Coast is a bountiful haven for fungal species in any season. The Albion foray focuses on a wide range of fungi, with edibles including boletes, chanterelles, candy caps, matsutake and hedgehogs.   Go here to get your Jackson Demostration Permit.

The Albion Retreat and Learning Center features heated private cabins with private baths and a lovely dining hall with a commercial kitchen. The center serves as our foray base and we utilize the kitchen for meals and our famous Saturday night potluck. North to Alaska Foray 2018 (by Bill White)

? WHEN: 25-01, September 2018
? WHERE: Sterling, Alaska

Foray is now Full

Join Bill and Jerri White at their Alaska Sports Lodge for the highly popular Alaska Foray.

Theme for the foray, courtesy of phenomenal photographer and bon vivant Hugh Smith. It is sung to the tune of North to Alaska by Johnny Horton. Check  https://youtu.be/JSt0NEESrUA for the melody, then sing Hugh's new, improved version:

Way up North............
Way up North............

North . . to Alaska, we're goin' north, the rush is on.
North . . to Alaska, we're goin' north, the hunt is on.

Ol' Hugh left the city, in the year of twenty ten, with
Sandi, his partner and some other mushroom friends. They
found the Kenai River, and they went where they were told. Theyfound
Cort caperatus, Lec Si Num,
and Boletes, big & bold.

Where the river is windin', Bill's Boletes we're findin',
North . . to Alaska, we're goin' north, the hunt is on.

Well Hugh turned to Phil with a Bolete in his hands.
Said, "Phil, you're a lookin' at a hungry hungry man.
I'd trade all these Porcini, that are found in this here land, forsome
good ol' deep-fried chic-ken, an' a chocolate dessert, man."

Where the Kenai is windin', big Boletes they're findin',
North . . to Alaska, we're goin' north, the hunt is on.
Alaska Bolete by Bradley Dunbaugh
