2021 NAMA Foray - Grandby, Colorado (by )
My Adventures in Telluride, Colorado (by )
I don't know why, but I had this strange desire to attend the annual Telluride Mushroom Festival in Colorado. I wanted to do this so much it made it my bucket list. I loved the idea of the Festival parade which seemed like a small town parade where folks dressed up as mushrooms.
Hearing about the great mushrooms in Colorado did not hurt either. This year, I finally managed to get this Festival on my schedule and I was not disappointed.
Dec 1 Marshall Field Foray (by )
In spite of an ominous weather forecast, 18 intrepid fungiphiles came out to Marshall Field Saturday to learn about local fungal habitats and to see what the recent rain had produced.
At first glance it appeared that nothing fungal was happening, but on closer inspection, the rotters were out in abundance.
It was a still a little too early for the mycorrizal species to show up...
Morel Fever (by )
Morel Season!
My palms are sweating; I swear it. It started mid April when my mushroom social media started appearing with posts of morels and morel related dishes. The season starts on the east coast and moves slowly to the West.
Beautiful posting of morels in midwest and some even from Europe begins haunting my video streams...
Pipi is on the "books" (by )
Bad News - Pipi has been cancelled.
Pipi is our most informal long distance club foray in the Serrias. It is a member's only foray.
The only scheduled part of this foray is our Saturday Potluck where everyone who is attending shows up at a designated campsite and brings food and drinks to share. Wild hunting stories are told around the campfire where often the bounty of the days hunting is found...
2017 Albion II Field Report - "Howard's smile"
The image that makes this foray for me, is the huge smile on new member, Howard Chen's face as he shows the basket of black trumpets he found while hunting with Zack Mazi and Chef Evan off of highway 20. This is what FFSC forays are all about. The enjoyment of finding and discovering the wonders of mushrooms. Sorry no picture; it is one of those shoulda coulda woulda moments.
Hunting was off and on this trip...
Albion 1 - December Field Report
Another successful foray for FFSC. Many mushroom were found although we missed the b. edulius and butter bolete flush earlier in the season by 3 - 4 weeks. We still had many to choose from.
The weather was beautiful and club members who attended met and greeted each other as extended family members which FFSC is. It is so good to see all our friends and as each foray passes, the list continues to grow...
NAMA National Foray – Front Royal, Virginia (by Phil Carpenter)
Being retired, I like to travel to other parts of the country or world to pursue my interest in mushrooms. This year, I considered two choices: the annual foray to Alaska in August hosted by long-term FFSC member, Bill White, or the national NAMA (North American Mycological Society) foray to Virginia, set for September 8-11. For a variety of reasons, I opted to go to Virginia. Oops, not the best choice as it turns out - Alaska had primo pickin’ while Virginia didn’t...
