Dr. Mo Mei Chen will be hosting a workshop on morel mushroom cultivation at UC Berkeley on August 5 - 6, 2016. New techniques in the cultivation of morels will be taught, and participants will go home with culture for spawning.

Spring Fungi of the Sierra Nevada

Once again, Dennis Desjardin and San Francisco State University will be offering their week-long class at the SFSU Sierra Field Station. Students will be introduced to the different kinds of mushrooms and other large fungi that occur in the spring in the Sierra Nevada (See SNFC species list). Emphasis will be placed on the analysis of macro- and micromorphological features, as well as ecological roles, to aid in the identification of taxa.

The new class schedule for Let's Cook! is out, and founder/owner Patricia Poritzky has organized a class on mushroom cookery led by Eric Carter of the Cabrillo College Culinary Program and Sesnon House. Those of you who were lucky enough to enjoy Eric's fabulous food at the Fungus Fair After-Hours Supper can return for more, and those of us who missed out completely have another chance! Please note that this is not a FFSC-sponsored event; we thought you'd like to know about it.

Many wild mushrooms contain permanent, intensely colored dyes. Join us Saturday, February 1 for a hands-on Mushroom Dye Workshop taught by Alissa Allen. If response is good, we will add another class on Sunday, February 2!

In this 4 hour class, you will learn the simple steps for extracting and harnessing the color-rich pigments found in local mushrooms. Possibilities span the entire spectrum of the rainbow.  Cost is $60 for FFSC members, $80 for non-members.
