"Shrooms 101" at Quail Hollow

Although this is not an FFSC event, and it is not free, we enourage everyone to register and to attend a unique all-day mushroom event at Quail Hollow.  There is an introductory lecture on local mushrooms, guided collecting forays into the woods and a hands-on ID workshop. Read on, this is one amazing opportunity to learn, assist in documenting flora, eat Chef Bob Wynn's cooking and to have a great time all in one day.

Christian Schwarz, co-author of the forthcoming book Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast, and expert on California fungal identification, will be our guest speaker. Experienced local foragers from the Santa Cruz Myco Flora project (scmycoflora.org) will be on hand to lead collecting walks and teach the basics of the identification process. Local chef Bob Wynn will join, preparing light meals for the event. This will include a winter-warming polenta to start the morning, followed by a midday meal of mushroom pasta Primavera, mixed salad and herbed focaccia. Appetizers of sautéed local mushrooms will also be served. Patrons should bring their own non-alcoholic drinks and snacks.
