Mushroom ID Class 2 of 4 (by )

? WHEN: 10/29/2014, 7-9 pm
? WHERE: Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, 1305 E Cliff Dr Santa Cruz, CA 95062

Phil Carpenter is leading a series of Fall Mushroom Identification classes. October first was the first in a series of 4 classes.  This second class will also be held at the Santa Cruz Natural History Museum on East Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz from 7-9 pm.    Participants must be club members and contact Phil prior to attending. The class is free, so the membership dues are the only fee for nonmembers. Come with fresh mushrooms from field or lawn, forest or mountains. Also bring your text: a copy of Mushrooms Demystified.

Classes are scheduled for the first and last Wednesday evenings for the months of October and November. We'll probably change the date of the last November class since the fourth Wed. falls on the night before Thanksgiving. In the past, we've moved the class to the Tuesday night before the normal fourth Wednesday.

We'll be learning how to use the field guide Mushrooms Demystified by David Arora to put names on mushrooms that attendees and the instructor will be bringing in. As in the past, we are taking sign-ups only from people interested in staying for all of the classes, schedules allowing, since many people have expressed interest in the classes and we can only accommodate 20-22 people. If you are interested, please send Phil Carpenter an email at philandmac(at)sbcglobal.net stating your interest, how many people you want to sign up and the best email address to use for each person. *Phil has also provided a handout.  Please ask him about it if you plan to attend but haven't received a copy by email.

Class will be filled in order of response. You must be a current (dues paid) member of the Federation in order to take the classes. There is no charge for attending.

The classes will be conducted in a hands-on, workshop style with actual mushrooms collected by the class participants. Again, we will be using the field guide, Mushrooms Demystified, as the class text. Everyone should plan to have one. Even though it is pretty dated now, it is still the best guide to putting a name on a mushroom.
