Please join us for our General Meeting at the Harvey West Scout House.  Refreshments will be provided and informal mushroom ID from 7:00 - 7:30.  A discussion of upcoming events will precede our speaker, Dr. Brian Perry.  Doors open at 6PM.

The topic of the talk is “Fungal Tales of the South Pacific - Assessing Mushroom Diversity in the Island Nation of Vanuatu”.

Dr. Brian Perry is an Associate Professor of Biology at California State University, East Bay. He received his Master's Degree from San Francisco State University under the guidance of Dr. Dennis E. Desjardin, and his Ph.D. from Harvard University where he studied with Dr. Donald Pfister. Brian has been studying fungi since 1995, and has published over 45 papers in scientific journals. In addition to documenting the mushrooms and other fungi of Vanuatu, he also conducts research on the assembly and biogeography of island fungal communities, endophytic fungi of Hawaiian plants, the systematics of Mycena and allied genera, and the evolution of fungal bioluminescence. Brian teaches several mycology courses at Cal State East Bay and the Sierra Nevada Field Campus, and recently launched a Sierra Nevada Mycoflora project.
