Autumn beckons and we await the first fungal fruitings! In the meantime, the FFSC Culinary Committee welcomes you to celebrate the season with our annual Fall Mushroom Dinner. Chef Bob Wynn and the Culinary Committee are cooking up a scrumptious menu for the evening. Menu is evolving, and will feature hors d’oeuvres served with an autumnal aperitif, followed by Vegetarian Porcini Pasta Bolognese (regular and gluten-free), Craterellus Green Beans, Foccacia and Panna Cotta for dessert. Mmmmmm...

I don't know why, but I had this strange desire to attend the annual Telluride Mushroom Festival in Colorado. I wanted to do this so much it made it my bucket list. I loved the idea of the Festival parade which seemed like a small town parade where folks dressed up as mushrooms.
Hearing about the great mushrooms in Colorado did not hurt either. This year, I finally managed to get this Festival on my schedule and I was not disappointed.
At last, the FFSC Mushroom season begins again. Join us for our first meeting of 2019/2020 season.
Our speaker for September is Dr. Kabir Peay from Stanford University. Kabir did his doctoral studies At UC Berkeley and now heads a highly regarded mycological research program at Stanford.
Please join us for our General Meeting at the Harvey West Scout House. Refreshments will be provided and informal mushroom ID from 7:00 - 7:30. A discussion of upcoming events will precede our speaker, Juniper Harrower, our scholarship recipent for her studies on the complexities of species under climate change as both ecologist and an artist. Doors open at 6PM.

The Fungus Federation is a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We have all the trappings, including a set of bylaws and a Board of Directors, known as Ministers in Fungusfedspeak. Elections are held every two years at the last meeting of the season. This year's elections will be held at the Membership meeting on May 15th at the Harvey West Scout House.
Below you'll find a list of the Board Members up for election. Please note that only the Prime Minister and Vice Prime Minister positions require having served previously as a board member. The other positions can be held by any FFSC member. This is a super opportunity to get involved in the operation of the Fungus Federation, direct and shape the club's activities, and get to know a great group of people.

Mycology in California started with the discovery of a few species during a break in the voyage of the North Pacific expedition. The discovery of new species has every been ongoing since that time. The main players during the more than 150 years of history will be put in the spotlight, and future directions of research in the state will be laid out.
